FYI #042090mm
Question:
Has anyone run across "Packed file is corrupt" errors while
trying to run LOGOUT, VOLINFO, CHKVOL or FLAG? Server is a
Compaq 386/33 with a 650Mb hard disk, running SFT NetWare 2.15a,
with PS/2 Model 70 workstations, 16Mb IBM token ring. All
FCONSOLE statistics look OK. All menu utilities work. Using a
"fresh" copy of LOGOUT from the original install disks yields the
same error message.
Answer:
I have seen this on a network before. The user was running SMC
Arcnet and was getting this error on several other utilities
also. After alot of time spent troubleshooting it looked like
the packets were getting corrupted somehow (it had to have been
in the data area instead of the header). The user got a new
driver from SMC and the problem went away.
Since then I have seen this happen some more with other network
topologies. I imagine that other network hardware problems could
cause this kind of problem also.
